Biography for Ernest O. Brown
OnJuly 20, 1969 Ernest watched man take his first steps on the surface of the moon and decided that if this feat was possible, he could become a professional artist. Since then Ernest has won numerous national awards, shown in galleries across the United States, worked as a sign painter and as a commercial artist. Now, nearly fifty-years later, Ernest runs his own studio in Burlington, VT and is available for a variety of projects both large and small.
Ernest has won awards and grants for his work including; an Eben Demarest Grant for Painting in 1974; FirstPlace in many local art shows, including the Portland Maine Street Show in1982; Honorable Mention twice in the Salmagundi Club of New York in their Annual National Shows in the mid - 80’s and Second Place in the New Hampshire Wildlife Stamp competition late 1980’s.
While employed at a sign shop inConway, NH, Ernest hand-illustrated signs and billboards. His subject matter ranged from moose to bike riders to scenic vistas. The most ambition project he undertook while at the signshop was a historical mural measuring 16 feet high by 120 feet long. The 1990 work was commissioned by a local amusement park, Heritage New Hampshire, and it details the exciting history of the state. Years later, Ernest painted an update of the mural on a smaller scale, 4 feet high by 32 feet long. His new work was created in the park and became an attraction in its own right.
For the last 16 years Ernest has been one of the premier illustrator for the multi-million dollar company White Mountain Puzzles of Jackson, NH.
