Growing up in Iowa I was fortunate enough to be exposed to many art classes through our public school system and a seed was planted. I went off to Central College in Pella, Iowa to study business. I later graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in economics. During my stints at assorted professional jobs I began taking college art classes, enjoying them thoroughly. In time I came to realize I should focus on clay. An epiphany? More likely simply mid-life and an allowance for introspection and honesty, or truth. The figure In essence, the torso is used as a catalyst to find truth and hopefully beauty. It is the center of our being relieving us of our extremities and extraneous burdens. A purity of motion within a simply elegant form. The abstract quality, or pieces and parts are used to create a whole. Experience, relationship, deconstruction and reconstruction combine to shape each new figure. |
